President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held a situation briefing on the effects of Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon in Quezon Province during his visit to the Municipality of Mauban on July 26, 2024.
During the briefing, Governor Helen Tan of Quezon Province reported that while infrastructure in Mauban has been affected by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina, no significant damages have been reported. She also highlighted that the recent flooding had a notable impact on rice and fisheries in the Province.
In response, President Marcos Jr. underscored the need to prioritize flood-control initiatives, emphasizing the critical role of environmental protection in mitigating the impact of natural disasters in the Region.
“What we are trying to do here is to come up [with an] overall plan on how to avoid this in the future,” he said, reiterating the importance of identifying the root causes of the persistent flooding in the area in order to create preemptive solutions to address the effects of La Niña.
“Ang tubig ay hindi nangingilala ng boundary, kaya ang flood control has to be a big plan... We have to understand the flow of the water and how to somehow manage it,” he added.
Local chief executives and Cabinet members joined the President in the situation briefing, where they presented updates, action plans and proposals for addressing disaster-related issues concerning bypass road, agriculture and construction, among others.
