Chennakeshava Temple is a brilliant Hoysala architecture, an epitome of craftsmanship. The Hoysalas ruled the modern day Karnataka, part of Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu from 10th to 14th century. The Hoysala dynasty was started by king Nripa Kama II by making an alliance with Ganga Dynasty. Chennakeshava temple was built in 1117AD by the famous Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana and it took 103 years to complete. It is made up of soap-stone which is soft like clay, easy to carve out and when dries becomes a good weather resistant. We have been reading about Hoysalas since months now but when we visited it's temples, we think what we have read is just a drop in the ocean and hence we encourage everyone to visit at least once the Hoysala temples.
