The Council provides an opportunity for revered masters to share profound teachings and discuss effective methods to preserve and disseminate the Buddha’s teachings in the modern world.
This year’s event holds special significance as it marks the first reopening of Druk Amitabha Mountain after an extended closure due to the pandemic. This reopening symbolizes not only a reconnection among the lineage’s members but also the revival of spiritual and community activities. It offers everyone a chance to strengthen their faith, wisdom, and merit, while also honoring the masters who have tirelessly preserved and transmitted the Dharma.
Furthermore, the organization of the Annual Council carries an additional purpose. His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, as the head of the lineage, has taught:
"We may feel that the lineage currently lacks many teachers or wonder how to connect with the living masters, as they are often humble and transcend worldly concerns. Organizing a conference like this is very fitting, as it allows us to invite the masters to gather and share teachings that benefit all, helping us establish a connection with them. This is not merely an introduction but a genuine connection that will be formed. This is how we can strengthen and energize our spiritual practice.
I hope that when I decide to reincarnate, you will not feel lost or empty but will understand that there are many authentic masters of the lineage who can continue the unfinished works of mine and guide you forever. Therefore, knowing that there are many noble masters alive today and establishing a connection with them is of utmost importance."
The Annual Drukpa Council is also a time to understand that the lineage does not depend solely on an individual or a historical period. This gathering demonstrates that the Drukpa lineage continues to thrive and grow with the presence of many remarkable masters. It is a precious opportunity for these masters to share their wisdom and inspire confidence in the enduring strength of the Dharma and the spiritual path. The Council is not only aimed at preserving traditional values but also at fostering community unity, advancing spiritual development, and contributing to peace, compassion, and wisdom in the modern world.
