Your business is great, but it can’t be everything to everyone. That’s why it’s critical that you find your target audience and create your own niche.
Here’s how to define your target market.
First, look for what your best customers all have in common. It’s likely that people who are similar to them will like your business, too.
Then check out your competition. Is there a twist that you can put on your business to make it stand out from theirs?
Third, use this existing information to create a profile of your most promising customers. Some common characteristics are age, gender, income, location or hobbies. Some more in-depth qualities are personality, values and behavior.
Once you’ve formed your customer profile, find out where these people get information. If your audience only gets information online, focus your marketing to reach them there.
Just remember:
Finding a target market doesn’t mean you exclude people who don’t fit your criteria.
It’s about focusing your marketing budget on a specific target that’s most likely to buy from you.
