After a year of efforts to make Aikido work, I had to ask myself: did my Aikido fail me? Was the distance between Aikido fantasy vs reality too big? In this video I will share in detail the conclusions that I came to after a years effort of trying to make my Aikido work.
My Aikido Quest that I've taken can be seen on my channel here:

Although from the very beginning of this project I knew that Aikido fantasy vs reality issue was big, I still had faith that with enough effort and training my aikido will not fail me. And yet while any Aikido technique can be justified and made believable, there is always the question of how high percentage it would work and how low risk it is. In the end if it is still low percentage and high risk techniques I will be forced to say that my Aikido failed me.
It is no wonder to me why Aikido Fail and Aikido has failed me are one of the top searches for Aikido alongside Aikido Bullshido, Aikido Bullshito, Aikido Fantasy vs Reality and others. Many people expect their Aikido to do something that it is not designed to. It is an outdated martial art in which many instructors claim that their Aikido will work, yet actually Aikido fail is more often what's going to happen.
Some people do a great job of trying to see how Aikido would work or being honest on how Aikido can fail. One of such examples if Aikidoflow YouTube channel where even one of their videos is called how Aikido has failed me. It took me a while to realize that many people are actually against Aikido not because they don't "understand it", but actually because there is a lack of honesty in many Aikido practitioners.
Of course if you want to know if your Aikido will fail you or not, you have to ask yourself what you are training your Aikido for. If it is meant for self development / improvement then of course it's not an Aikido fail, yet a lot of people expect Aikido to work in the streets and that is not realistic.
That is why I am interested to look at Aikido self defense aspect not any more by attaching myself to it's outdated techniques, yet rather by focusing on other disciplines which can offer solutions that will give what Aikido promised to.
In the end, let me know in the comments, do you feel Aikido fail is Aikido's destiny? Do you feel Aikido can be saved by changing it entirely or stopping the promise of effectiveness as self defense? Let me know in the comments.
