You find more information here [ Ссылка ] Cell separation of magnetically labeled cells takes place in a MACS® Column. The columns contain a matrix composed of superparamagnetic spheres, which are covered with a cell-friendly coating. When the column is placed in a MACS Separator or as part of a tubing set in the magnet unit of a CliniMACS Prodigy®, the spheres amplify the magnetic field 10.000-fold. This induces a strong magnetic field within the column that retains cells being labeled with nano-sized MACS MicroBeads or CliniMACS Reagents.
Inside the magnetic column, the space between the spheres is about 20 times the size of lymphocytes, so that cells can move freely and are only retained by magnetic forces. This ensures a gentle flow of cells, without pressure, sticking or compression. In consequence, cell integrity and characteristics are preserved, and the cells are fully functional for downstream applications.
