Hundreds of armed militants attacked three tribal police camps in Pakistan killing two constables and taking 22 others hostage. The tribal police, known as levies, are locals employed by the Pakistan government to oversee security in Pakistan's tribal provinces
Reports said around 200 armed militants carrying rifles and RPGs attacked a telephone exchange south of Peshawar that the levies were using as an outpost.
Local officials said the firefight lasted for around one hour.
After overcoming the guards the militants took a cache of weapons and ammunition before blowing up the exchange and taking around 12 hostages.
The militants then went on to attack another two outposts, where they took several more hostages.
Authorities are searching for the missing men.
