Train ramps are required to have lugs on the top end that slot into the threshold of the train. The idea is that this prevents the ramp from slipping.
They're a bit of a pain to line up though. So sadly some rail staff, in my experience particularly on Scotrail and Northern, are in the habit of using... persuasion to remove them.
This puts lives at risk and must stop.
