In this video, I walk up the iconic Selaron Steps in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As we ascend, I'll share some interesting facts about the Selaron Steps, their history, and the man behind them.
The Selaron Steps, officially known as Escadaria Selarón, are a vibrant set of stairs located between the neighborhoods of Santa Teresa and Lapa in Rio de Janeiro. There are 215 steps adorned with over 2,000 ceramic tiles, mirrors, and fragments from all around the world, a testament to its creator, Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón.
Selarón began renovating the dilapidated steps in 1990 and it quickly evolved into an ongoing project of passion that he referred to as his "tribute to the Brazilian people." This mosaic masterpiece has become one of the most iconic attractions in Rio.
