The meeting is a way to mark 25 years since the Holy See and Romania established diplomatic ties. During the brief gathering, both leaders talked about the relationship between state authorities and local Catholic communities. The healthy co- existence of minorities was also discussed. About 80 percent of the country's population is Orthodox and only four percent is Catholic.
