Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-NY) put forth a bill this past week for the SBA to change the interest rates on EIDL disaster-loans from 3.75% (businesses) / 2.75% (non-profits) to 1% for both. This would have a massive impact on the 2 million small businesses that have received loans already.
We'll be tracking the bill but it has a few other co-sponsors and it's conceivable that many lawmakers will get behind it in a renewed effort to support small businesses.
Second, the head of the SBA EIDL program, James Rivera, testified before Congress this week, and he was severely criticized for the poor roll-out of the program. We talk about that and certain implications.
