Labor has again called for the government to expand it’s JobKeeper scheme to further cushion the blow to future jobless rates.
Unemployment figures for March were better than expected, climbing only 0.1 per cent to 5.2 per cent, but data was based on a survey taken before the strict lockdown measures were put in place.
Shadow Employment Minister Brendan O’Connor told reporters it was “important to note” the data was more of a reflection on the issues the economy before the pandemic hit.
He also called on Treasurer Josh Frydenberg to extend the scheme beyond it’s September end date.
