Original airdate: 9/1/2017 | LOWER HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. - Subway is giving its customers in Berks County a taste of the restaurant chain's new format.
The company on Friday unveiled its "fresh forward" design at the Subway in the Sinking Spring Plaza on Penn Avenue in Lower Heidelberg Township.
It's one of the first stores in Pennsylvania to feature the new look, which includes a "bold and playful décor," new menu options and a flexible, comfortable environment for dine-in or takeout, the company said.
"We're giving our guests more of what they love about Subway, like highlighting our fresh baked bread, cookies and some of our veggies in modern displays, while providing them with modern features that they have not yet seen from us, like self-ordering kiosks and new ingredients," said David Wike, the franchise owner.
Also, the restaurant in Lower Heidelberg now features Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, and a designated area for picking up items pre-ordered on the Subway app.
"I am excited to be reopening my second Subway here in Sinking Spring," Wike said. "I have been here in Sinking Spring for five years and currently employ over 20 people in the Reading area and looking forward to many more years to come."
The changes will take place as stores across the country are remodeled and new ones are built, with between 3,000 and 5,000 stores around the world featuring the new look before the end of the year.
