In this video we find some spring Oyster mushrooms growing on an old dead Poplar tree. The Oyster is a commonly hunted and grown edible mushroom, that fruits in the fall and spring, as well as the summer. After you have identified your mushroom as an oyster, next you need to harvest it properly. Sometimes though the mushroom you're looking at kind of looks like an oyster but it has a prominent stem. This is something we discuss in this video, and sometimes they can grow in such weird shapes that it can be difficult for beginner to identify them.
To harvest your Oysters take a knife and cut along the base of the tree and the mushroom. This will leave most of the mycelium intact and give you a clean and easy harvest. While harvesting it's important to look for signs of the mushrooms age to determine edibility. With Oysters the more yellow and brown you see the older they are, and you should be cautious for any part that is too old.
Like with nay mushroom keeping an eye for bugs is also important.
