There is a quick nod to one of Gru’s favorite things in the Despicable Me movies set years later. When the Minions are walking through Villain-Con at one point, they walk past a booth where a younger Doctor Nefario is demonstrating his new invention, the freeze ray. Who would happen to be watching the demonstration? A young Gru. The freeze ray turns out to be Gru’s favorite weapon in Despicable Me.
