The first of the new Intercity Express Trains for GWR entered service on the 0600 Bristol Temple Meads-London Paddington on 16th October 2017. Here we see its arrival at Chippenham (some 20 minutes late). Ghosting in before this delayed departure was a Swansea train hauled by the very first production HST car (43002) over 40 years old and soon to be replaced by one of the new IETs. On the train we meet the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling who extolled the virtue of the new trains - much cleaner and more efficient as they will use electric rather than polluting diesel power. (Actually he didn't say that). The video also shows the first IET from London, the 0700 Paddington-Bristol Temple Meads which I travelled on from Swindon to Chippenham.
