This Sunday, hundreds of people will be going to the top of the Space Needle. Not by riding the elevators, but by climbing 832 stairs.
The 6th annual Base 2 Space fundraiser climb returns for the first time in 3 years.
Participants can climb for a cause by walking or jogging the 98 short flights of stairs to the top of the needle. All the money raised from the event will benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
We asked five time Base 2 Space runner Andre Ellison to give first-timers a few tips.
"The most important thing to know is to get a great night's sleep beforehand, to come hydrated, and start the day before — lots of water," Ellison said. "And when you show up here for your first time start slow and gradually work your way up. It's not a race so much as it is an event."
If you sign up, every climber commits to a fundraising minimum of $175. That comes out to less than $20 from 10 friends or family members. If you use the promo code K5EVENING you’ll get $10 off the registration fee. But hurry, online signups close Friday night. So far, the event has raised $3 million dollars since it began.
Base 2 Space happens Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Space Needle. Same-day registrations will be available.
Sponsored by the Space Needle.
