Ricky Steamboat was one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE history who never held the heavyweight championship. Ricky was an extremely talented superstar, coming into the world of wrestling with an amateur background and an incredible work ethic.

Ricky was trained all Verne Gagne's camp, one of the tougher wrestling schools back then, and he came out of the camp as a star student. During his rise to superstardom, Ricky was able to work a program with Ric Flair quite early in his career, something that really helped him reach the next level in his career.

After having much success in Jim Crockett Promotions in singles and tag team wrestling, Ricky Steamboat made his way to the WWF. Now showing his talents on a worldwide platform, Ricky Steamboat grew even more in popularity. He had an excellent feud with Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and his match with Macho Man Randy Savage at WrestleMania III was innovative and groundbreaking. Ricky Steamboat, however, would ask to take some leave after winning the Intercontinental Championship, something that seemingly didn't sit well with the WWF higher ups.
