Baisha Village, located about 16 kilometers north of Lijiang City in Yunnan Province, is an ancient and beautiful town. It is also the original settlement of the Naxi people in Lijiang, and the birthplace of the Lijiang Tusi People, the earliest political, economic and cultural center of the Naxi people, and an important part of the Lijiang Old Town which is a World Heritage Site.
The Baisha Murals are an integral part of Lijiang's World Cultural Heritage, one of the manifestations of Lijiang's multiculturalism, and an integral part of Lijiang tourism. Lijiang frescoes distributed in Yangxi's Wande Palace, Guiyi Hall in Dayan Town, Hantan Temple, Dajue Palace in Shuhe, former residence of Mu family, Fuguo Temple in Zhi Mountain, Liuli Hall in Baisha, Dabaojigong Palace, Hufa Hall, Dading Pavilion and so on.
The subjects included in the murals are relatively broad. The natural scenery of galloping horses, blooming lotus flowers, mountains and fields, birds, grass and insects are depicted in murals. These paintings all clearly demonstrate the painter's keen observation ability and a positive attitude into the world of thought and emotion. Religious figures depicted in the frescoes, with religion as the medium, either implicitly or explicitly describe the social life of the time.
