Tinka Tinka National Awards for inmates and prison staff were released in Lucknow District jail on the eve of international Human Rights Day in December, 2019. Awards were released by Shri Anand Kumar, IPS, DG Prisons, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Sulkhan Singh, Former DG Police, Uttar Pradesh and Vartika Nanda, Founder, Tinka Tinka. A total of 13 inmates were awarded in the Painting section (4 main awards and 9 consolation prizes), 8 inmates were awarded in the special mention category and 8 jail staff were honoured in the Prison Administrators award section. Theme for paintings this year was Radio in Jails. 3. Jury this year included Dr. Javeed Ahmed, IPS, DG, NICFS, MHA, Shri Ram Phal Pawar, IPS, DG, NCRB and Prison Reformer Vartika Nanda.
TINKA TINKA INDIA & TINKA TINKA BANDINI AWARDS
Tinka Tinka Foundation has curated two national awards exclusively for prisons, Tinka Tinka India Awards and Tinka Tinka Bandini Awards. These are the only awards that are solely dedicated to inmates and jail staff. Started in 2015, this is the 8th year of celebration of creativity in jails, through these awards. Every year, a prison related subject is chosen as the main theme. This has helped inmates express their emotions and creative talents, enabling the award winners to even apply for remissions. In 2019, the theme was ‘Radio in Jails’.
