The serbian republic of krajina was born in 1991, in that same year the former socialist federative republic of croatia had proclaimed its independence from the yugoslav federation. The Croatian government, however, had as its main objective that of creating a state composed of a population of only Croats, this had therefore led to the progressive expulsion from the new Republic of the Serbian citizens who lived there. The latter were mostly resident in the Krajina region, corresponding to the border strip between Croatia and Bosnia. The Croatian Serbs therefore proclaimed the independence of their region which during the wars of Yugoslavia fought alongside the Serbian federation until the Croatian army carried out Operation Storm in 1995 which led to the definitive conquest of Krajina and the siege of its capital, Knin. However, we must remember that even the soldiers of Krajina were stained with blood during the war in Croatia, in fact they participated in the siege of Vukovar. It must therefore be taken into consideration that neither the Croats nor the Krajini (the soldiers, not the population) were lenient with their adversaries.
