2 Chronicles 33:1–20 recounts the story of King Manasseh of Judah, who began his reign at 12 years old. Initially, he led Judah into grave sin, rebuilding pagan altars, worshiping idols, and even desecrating the Temple of the Lord. Despite God’s warnings, Manasseh persisted in his rebellion.
As a result, God allowed the Assyrians to capture him, binding him with chains and dragging him to Babylon. In his distress, Manasseh humbled himself, repented, and prayed to God. In His mercy, God restored him to his throne in Jerusalem.
Upon his return, Manasseh showed true transformation by removing idols, repairing the altar of the Lord, and encouraging the people to worship the God of Israel. His life became a testament to the power of repentance and God’s forgiveness. The chapter concludes with Manasseh’s death and burial in Jerusalem.
