Husni Abdel Wahed, the Palestinian ambassador to Spain, said on Tuesday that Spain’s recognition of the Palestinian state gives “reasons for joy, happiness and celebration” despite having “more reasons for grief and pain”.
Wahed added that the step should not be seen as merely symbolic, highlighting Israel’s reaction to the news as evidence that the move has “legal, political and practical consequences”.

Spain, Ireland and Norway formally recognised a Palestinian state on Tuesday in a coordinated decision. The three European countries believe their initiative has a strong impact that could encourage others to follow suit.
The move by the European nations was slammed by Israel as a “reward” for Hamas, more than seven months into the devastating Gaza war.
