Thanks to steady improvements to logistics infrastructure in rural parts of China, e-commerce in those regions is thriving.
Data shows the country's rural e-commerce logistics index rose to a five-year-high this past October, growing almost 3 points from the previous month to more than 132.
In central China's Henan Province, a farmer is busy livestreaming sweet potatoes and other local produce.
With lucrative returns, he says, lots of farmers are jumping on the livestream e-commerce bandwagon.
Behind the scenes, a robust logistics network underpins the surge in rural e-commerce.
The local government has developed a three-tiered logistics system made up of village service stations, township distribution centers and county-level logistics parks, making it easier to deliver farm-fresh goods to urban consumers.
Meanwhile, a tiered pricing system for shipping has also been introduced in the region, which offers discounted pricing based on order volume.
In 2023, China's rural online retail sales reached more than 345 billion U.S. dollars, with online sales of agricultural products amounting to about 81 billion.
