Veteran Indian actor Om Puri has died after suffering cardiac arrest in the Indian city of Mumbai. He was 66.

He is known for powerful acting in parallel cinemas during the 1980s, and went on to bag roles in a number of international projects.

He was conferred with one of India's highest civilian honors for his contribution to the film industry. The UK government awarded him an honorary British Knighthood.
