“Costasiella kuroshimae or known as Shaun the sheep is unique because it can perform a process called kleptoplasty. This means it retains chloroplasts from the algae it consumes, allowing it to photosynthesize and produce energy from sunlight, similar to plants. This ability is unusual and contributes to the nudibranch’s survival in nutrient-poor environments.”

Thanks for watching 🌻 I LOVE Nudibranchs (& all Sea Slugs) - do you? 📸 I am an Underwater Photographer in Edmonds, WA and my mission: Make Nudibranch a Household Name 🐌
What is a Nudibranch anyways? They are colorful Sea Slugs found all over the world in beautiful varying colors, sizes and shapes. About 3,000 different species have been identified and more are discovered every year.
Nudibranchs capture the wonder and beauty of the ocean - help me teach the world about them!
