It gives me immense pleasure to sing this composition on Mahaperiyava (former Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham). This was recorded as an offering to HIM for successful completion of Sankarapura Agnihotra agrahara ([ Ссылка ] )
Acharya's teaching has influenced me in many ways. I have a special experience with this particular song. I couldn’t contain sharing this with everyone. Please pardon the lengthy note.
A few years ago, I was on the way to perform on the violin for a dance performance. The organizer had requested me to play a song during the interval between the dance items. While traveling I felt I should compose something new and on Paramacharya. In flash of a moment, the following lyrics occured to me; the tune, raga and Tāla flowed right away. It was Mahaperiyava's grace from that moment!!
"Chandrasekhara Karunākara Sankara, Chandrakalādhara mām pāhi"
It fit perfectly in 'Keeravani' Ragam and 'Khanda Triputa' Tāla. (Please remember the Ragam and Tāla)
I presented it to my heart's content to a full auditorium.
Now comes the story!!
I had no clue about this particular kriti (that you are listening to) by Dr Raghavan (one of the foremost Sanskrit scholars of India). I hadn't heard this song before. His composition starts like this
Chandrasekharam ashraye guruvaram Sri- in Keeravani and Khanda Triputa Tāla!!!
(hope you see the coincidence)
When did I listen to this composition? Months after my performance at the dance festival, I happened to listen to an interview of Dr. Ganesh, a vocalist disciple of great Maharajapuram Sri Santanam in which he mentioned about an interesting episode where Paramacharya shared with Sri Santanam that Keeravani was his favourite Ragam and how he sang this kriti in HIS presence. I was startled to note so many coincidences between this composition and the one that I composed a few of months ago.
The beginning line, Ragam and Tālam were the same!!!! Such a beautiful and pleasant coincidence. I learnt Dr Raghavan's composition was yearning this to sing in front of Mahaperiyava's adhistanam at Kancheepuram during my then planned trip. I did get the good fortune of singing it in the divine ambience at Kancheepuram with HIS blessings.
I also had a divine experience there...
To be contd...
Warm Regards
Sandhya Anand
