Meet Dr. Therese "Tess" Bittermann, a skilled hepatologist and medical director of the Living Donor Liver Transplant Program at Penn Medicine. She specializes in the treatment of patients with benign liver diseases, serious liver diseases like cirrhosis, and those who have received a liver transplant. As the medical director of the Liver Living Donor Program, she plays an essential role in connecting healthy individuals willing to donate a part of their liver to patients in need, ultimately saving lives.
Dr. Bittermann shares her passion for her work, stating, "One of the things I really like about my job is that I do lots of different things. I do research, which I think helps improve people's lives on a big scale. I see patients in clinic, which that's more on a one-to-one. I see living donors who are able to save someone's life with a selfless act. And so all of those things together make my day to day very exciting and different."
