National Curriculum Framework abbreviated as NCF 2023 requires more working hours than usual.
Union education ministry released new curriculum framework on August 23, 2023.
Committee headed by ISRO chairman K Kasthurirangan and 12 others framed the new norms in accordance with National Educational Policy - 2020.
It stated that students of classes 9 to 10 will have 7 mandatory subjects where as classes 11 and 12 will have 6 mandatory subjects in which high school students should study 3 languages (2 Indian origin languages)and plus two students should study two languages (one Indian origin language)
It stated to conduct board exams twice in a year to reduce the content load to children.
The Social Science curriculum will have 20% local and global content and 30% regional and national content.
Committee asked education institutions to shift themselves from annual pattern to term based or to semester scheme
Parents and educationists expressed concern over the board exams twice in a year. Parents argued that, most of the time will be consumed only for studies and there will be no chance for extracurricular activities like Sports and cultural events. Continuous study might hinder the growth of children and can disturb mental health of the child.
Board exams might cause extra burden to teachers because, syllabus should complete on time, which help student to prepare early for public exam. This is not at all feasible. Time limit is the biggest issue to adapt this new framework and it adds other language subjects too.
It is better to conduct one half yearly and one annual board exams. It will not pressurize students, teachers and parents because they are have been habituated to it for years.
