Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install this Titan Chain Assisted Tensioning Snow Tire Chains on our 2020 Ford F-150 with tire size 275 65 R18. When checking out tire chains for your vehicle be sure to pick out the right ones for your vehicle. It's important to look at your tire size, plug that information into our fit guide to find the right ones for you because if you have a different tire size this one might not work for you. The chains are designed to work with a range of tire sizes but you wanna make sure again, you pick up the right ones that have the right fit. This is a diamond pattern chain and what that means is rather than having the links go just in perpendicular lines across the tire, these form a sort of diamond shape, that gets you a little bit more coverage over the tire, resulting in a somewhat smoother ride quality, less bumpy compared to ladder pattern style but also it's gonna give us better traction on turns.
In addition to that, it uses a square shaped link which is going to have some harder edges and it does have a pretty good link size so it's gonna help break up things like ice a bit more than something low profile would like a cable or a twisted link. It will be a little bit bumpier because of that, but if you're driving in somewhat harsh conditions and you need something that's gonna be a little bit more aggressive then this could maybe be your one. Now, if you're looking for an aggressive chain for the F-150 whether it be a really large link size, maybe a V-bar style chain, there's certainly options out there and we carry a lot of them here at etrailer. But where this one differs is the integrated tensioner because a lot of those more aggressive ones are gonna have manual tensioning and require extra pieces. This one has an assisted tensioning device built right into the chain, makes the install process really easy but as well as getting a strong fit on the tire.
So you can feed this arm through the loops and if needed, through some extra spots here, pulling it tight and getting a snub fit on the tire. Again, not having to worry about picking up extra pieces after the fact to ensure a strong fit. The chains are constructed of a manganese nickel alloy that's going to keep it really weather resistant compared to something like a low carbon steel, which is a bit of a softer metal and more susceptible to rusting over time. So if you want something that's gonna last multiple seasons I would go for any sort of manganese nickel alloy like these ones. In addition to that, they come with a carrying case.
So a pair of them can be stored in here, one on either side and it's built with this nice soft shell material that's gonna be pretty rugged and easy to store in your truck for when you need the most and they're not a hassle to get back in the bag. A lot of chains can come with pretty poor packaging that oftentimes comes ripped. So with this, it's nice that it's going to keep it all in one place, ready to go when you need it. And with all that in mind, I know I mentioned that the install process for this is a little bit nicer than some of those more manual tension chains so let's check out that process together now. Now the first step of your installation process is to lay out the chain and make sure that nothing's tangled up.
Ours looking pretty good right now and we will also look for proper orientation. We want an opening between the two sections of chain right here. That's where the base of our tire will sit. We want the yellow chain out front and the coated cable around back. The other thing is to make sure it's facing the right direction. So on these cross links here that attach to the cable there's a smooth side and a more hooked abrasive side. We'll have that smooth side face up so it's touching our tire. Once all that's figured out we can feed the chain behind the tire. I like to take this side with the self-tensioning arm and actually not feed that behind first. Take the other end and feed that behind cuz there's just less to get tangled up. So that'll go behind the tire out and around to the other side and once you see it peeking around you can pull everything towards the front, making sure that nothing got tangled along the way. Our first connection's gonna be that coated cable where one end we've got a stud and the other end we have a catch
