Recording of DCSWA Professional Development Month 2021 Panel: Fostering Diversity: Inclusive mentoring of early career science writers
Many newsrooms peopled by predominantly white journalists are seeking to be more diverse, equitable and inclusive. But it’s often not comfortable for people to be the only person of their race/ethnicity/gender/religion or other diverse background in an organization. That may be especially true for interns or other early-career professionals. This panel will explore how to better support interns and early-career professionals of all kinds.
Panelists:
Nicholas St. Fleur, general assignment reporter and assistant editorial director of events at STAT
Rodrigo Pérez Ortega, Staff writer at Science
Chanapa Tantibanchachai, Press Officer, Food and Drug Administration
Jeff Mervis, a senior correspondent for Science
Moderator: Kasha Patel, digital storyteller at NASA
