This is a 10 minute video of a mock trial from opening statements through closing arguments, including the judge's instructions. It ends right before the jury announces its verdict. This video can be used to show kids what a trial looks like, and then they can deliberate as the jury and decide whether the prosecution has proven that the defendant is guilty. This video was written and directed by Berkeley High School sophomore Rachel Alper, and it stars a number of kids who are alumni of the fifth grade mock trial program at Rosa Parks Elementary School in Berkeley, California. For more information about this program, please contact Ty Alper at talper@law.berkeley.edu.
Equipment was provided by the Berkeley High video production program, with support from the Berkeley High Development Group, the Berkeley Public Schools Fund, Career Technical Education (CTE), and Regional Occupation Program (ROP).
