Up to four inches of snow has fallen on high ground in the North of England today. Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Lancashire and Cumbria have been worst hit by the snow, as March continues to feel more like winter than spring. Meanwhile 78 schools were closed in Oldham, another 50 in East Lancashire, eight in Leeds and 28 more in the wider West Yorkshire area. Elsewhere there were 60 closures in Bradford, 40 more in Tameside and a further 14 in Bury, Rochdale and Stockport combined. The greatest snowfall is forecast to hit the Peak District and the Pennines as daytime temperatures in the North struggle to reach 4C.
