Two years ago we drove through Sun Valley, Idaho, on our way to Glacier National Park. We had a great time, but the feedback was consistent about visiting Redfish Lake. We made a mental note that when we were in the area again, we would visit. So we did—and the feedback was right! Redfish Lake reminded us a lot of Lake Tahoe, but smaller and stuck in time, by design. We met several people that have vacationed there since they were kids and they told us that nothing has changed. Unlike most popular lake destinations, Redfish Lake doesn't have lakefront homes lining the shores. In fact, the only lakefront property available is the campground. There is plenty to do in Stanley, Idaho: hot springs, hiking, swimming, renting kayaks or stand-up paddle boards, or just hanging out on the dog beach. We quickly got swept up in the Redfish Lake lifestyle between great food, live music on Wednesdays and Fridays (during the summer months) and the frozen margaritas. If you don't have an RV (yet), look into staying at the lodge or even renting a cabin if you have a large family.
