The state government’s decision of banning cameras of private media in the Assembly session in Karnataka is receiving sharp criticism. Representatives from various media organisations held a symbolic protest at Maurya Circle and called the decision as suppression of freedom of the press. The opposition, Congress and JD(S) also expressed solidarity with the press.
While Congress called this move as undemocratic, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy blamed the BJP and said “it is known for suppressing people’s freedom”.
The Speaker of the Assembly who refused to hear grievances has maintained that he will go by the rule, however.
