Jayce Raaschou is a dynamic 17-year old who started saving for his first classic wooden boat project when he was just 12 years old. His amazing story is inspiring a lot of we older guys to tackle our dream projects about building, fixing up and sailing trailer boats.

Early one morning, Jayce was at the Nojour Road boat ramp just a short distance down the road from my home when he messaged me with "Hey Christopher, I’m launching in the Maroochy, and was wondering if you would be interested in checking out my boat.”

I hadn’t met Jayce before, but I was following his journey on Facebook as he set out to get hold of a Couta Boat. He found one in Robe, SA and had it transported up to the Sunshine Coast where he was in the process of fitting her out. I was pretty keen to get a closer look at Pioneer as he had christened her.

I dropped the project I was working on and within 10 minutes there she was in front of me. Pioneer emblazoned on her transom. Jayce had already managed to stand the mast up on his own. Pretty impressive for a 65Kg 17-year-old, but there is much to be impressed by in this young man.

Jayce invited me to join him on the river, and of course, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to ask him a few questions and video the shakeout on the Maroochy River.
