Feb 16, 2012 - "Painting Air" an installation art piece in an exhibition of the same name by artist Spencer Finch is being installed in the main gallery of RISD's Chace Building. Inspired in spirit by Claude Monet's efforts to paint transient conditions of light and atmosphere, one hundred tempered plates of reflective glass are suspended from the ceiling, each by a thin single cable, allowing for the glass glass to rotate with air movement. The walls of the spacious gallery are painted with overlapping squares in 35 colors that reflect into the crystalline surfaces of the glass. The exhibit opens on February 24, 2012.
