You have a screenplay and you go, "should I get it to a literary agent or should I send it to a production company or a producer?"
The key is, you need to know what you want to do with it. Now, let's look at the roles here. A literary agent is going to take your screenplay and maybe sign you as a client. And maybe that's to work with you for your entire career as a screenwriter.
But that would be for you to sell the screenplay to a production company or to a producer and move it into the next stage development, pre production, whatever that is.
The role of a literary agent is to bridge that gap. A great literary agent can take your screenplay and reach out to those producers and production companies that you may not have access to.
However, if you want to be involved more in regards to Producing and having a say with the film, you may need to go directly to a Production Company, or a Producer.
