Video Transcript:
NARRATOR: AbilityOne is a federal program that is supposed to provide job opportunities for people with disabilities. Instead, they're funding contractors who run sheltered workshops. Often paying less than the minimum wage even, while their executives make huge salaries.
TIA: AbilityOne should be ashamed that they're not doing what they're supposed to be doing. My name is Tia Nelis, President of Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE), and I'm from Illinois. SABE, Self Advocates Becoming Empowered, believe that people with disabilities should have real jobs, real pay, and also have the opportunity to have careers in their life. If you're in a sheltered workshop, most of the time you're doing piecework and a lot time there's no work for people. People sit around and do nothing all day. I think it's a horrible deal because people with disabilities really need jobs. It's very unfair.
NARRATOR: AbilityOne should create job opportunities, not allow contractors to profiteer off people with disabilities. Sign the petition at www.ReformAbilityOne.org
