I make an optical center punch out of 1-1/2" Steel bar and 3/4" acrylic dowel using Stainless steel that I heat treat as the punches. Using a lathe I turn the steel down and add contours, then polish it to a mirror shine. The acrylic is turned on the lathe as well creating the crosshairs for the optical piece and then polishing it to a crystal clear finish.
