Dubai has officially commenced the construction of the world’s largest airport terminal, the Al Maktoum International Airport Terminal. With an estimated cost of approximately 35 billion dollars, this colossal terminal is set to redefine air travel. The visionary leaders of the United Arab Emirates, including Deputy Prime Minister and Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced this groundbreaking project. The terminal’s design has been approved, and it will span an impressive area. Upon completion, it will accommodate an astounding annual influx of 260 million passengers.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasized that this airport will be the most capacious in the world, surpassing the existing Dubai International Airport by a factor of five. The Al Maktoum International Airport, situated in the heart of the city, has been handling a relatively smaller portion of Gulf financial center’s air traffic since 2010. Authorities aspire to replace the current Dubai International Airport with this new facility, which can potentially handle an annual footfall of 120 million passengers. Due to its central location, expansion of the existing airport is not feasible.
