August 26th marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment and women gaining the right to vote.
“We Stand on Their Shoulders”, is an exhibit designed by the Wisconsin Historical Society to tell the story of the struggle to pass the 19th amendment and the years following as women began to take a more public role in political life.
In this video, we explain how partial suffrage worked, what it covered and the challenges women faced when it came to voting. This is the third episode in a series of seven videos.
Join Wisconsin Historical Society on August 26th at noon. Ring a bell in celebration of this important step in voting rights. You can also wear white just like the suffragists did 100 years ago. Show us how you are celebrating by tagging the Wisconsin Historical Society in your social media posts and use the hashtags #WomensVote100 #WIVotesforWomen #BIGHistoryIsHappening
