This week I head out to an old RAF airbase in the Hertfordshire countryside. RAF Hunsdon was used as an active RAF base during World War 2 from 1941
The first unit to arrive was the No 85 Squadron 85 the Boston Havocs. In 1944 Mosquitos from 21 Squadron RAF, 46 Squadron (Australia) RAF, 487 Squadron (New Zealand) RAF. There was also
A Canadian squadron based here No 442 (Caribou) Canada Squadron.
As we walked around the site we kept finding more and more Pillboxes used as a defence ring around the airstrip.
We then watched a few locals taking their light aircraft out before continuing the explore around the site.
This was a fascinating and fun day out which whether you are interested in military history or not, you would enjoy the rural scenery. If you want to see the location see my Strava or Komoot links below
