Alfred Hitchcock's 1941 film "SUSPICION" starring Joan Fontaine and Cary Grant has the reputation of being ruined by its let down of an ending. But, the finale seen in the film was just one of many written, filmed and discussed.

The many endings of "Suspicion" is an interesting study of the politics of filmmaking. While making "Suspicion", Alfred Hitchcock's artistic vision for his story ran headlong into the public persona of its star Cary Grant , the demands of RKO studio and the restrictions of the production code.

Although this final released ending is often maligned, a reevaluation that focuses on its subtle ambiguity makes for a deeper richer film experience.

The article "The Endings of Suspicion" was an invaluable piece of research because keeping track of all the many proposed, filmed, discarded, cut endings was a lot. (I still may have messed some of that up) If you'd like to read more here's the link to the article:
