I have done a great research into this topic, and have shortlisted the best reading programs I found, in my opinion. All of these programs are phonics programs. And, more specifically, research-based synthetic phonics programs.
All the programs that I have shortlisted are all phonics programs! And they all give you a very solid foundation for successful reading.
However, I am aware that different children need different learning styles. Some kids benefit a lot from a multi-sensorial learning style, while others may just need very explicit and structured lessons, and lots of opportunities to practice. That is why I have shortlisted programs with different teaching / learning styles. I also know that we, parents/ families, all have different lifestyles, circumstances and preferences.
Some of us just want to be taken by the hand, do not want to overthink and we just want to be told what to do, for example following a script.
Some of us appreciate some flexibility on the program, and don’t mind a little bit of extra preparation.
I hope you enjoy the list and it really helps you decide the right program for your child. This is an important decision, so it is great that you are looking for information to make an informed decision!
