St. Mary of Egypt was a fourth century “desert mother” who fled into the Jordan wilderness to live a life of repentance. Discovered by a monk during his lenten retreat in the same desert, St. Mary revealed her life’s story and how the Lord had led her to renounce her former life of debauchery and embrace the desert path to paradise.
