Why are our peatlands and wetlands so important in our efforts to combat the impacts of climate change? Ireland's National Parks and Wildlife Service explains how carbon sequestration in peatlands works and how damaged peatlands actually release carbon back into the atmosphere. Countries such as Ireland with a high level of peatland cover have a special responsibility to preserve and restore our peatlands to mitigate the effects of climate change.
