To recap here are the pros and cons for this kayak:
PROS:
- It packs up into a small package, is very portable and easy to store anywhere.
- It’s quick to setup.
- It’s easy to paddle, great for bringing out the kids or sharing with family members.
- It’s ideal for fun days at the lake and cruising around on calm water.
- Best of all it is very affordable compared to most other tandem inflatable kayaks on the market.
CONS:
- It only comes with a 90 day warranty, which is very low in the industry and I think says a lot about the quality. The material is definitely thinner than what I’m used to with my other inflatable kayaks.
- There is noticeable yaw movement when paddling so straight line kayaking is not as efficient.
- When used as a tandem with two adults there isn’t a ton of leg room. For reference when testing out this kayak I am 5’8” tall and my partner is 5’10”. If you are 6’ or taller you probably won’t want to use the K2 as a tandem although it could still be used as a solo.
- The valves and accessories are cheaper and not as nice to use. I found the valves easy to inflate but took more effort to deflate.
All this being said there is no doubt that the Explorer K2 has been extremely popular and it has a TON of good reviews. So my feeling is that as long as you don’t expect perfection from it, it’s a great option for having fun on the water.
