What happens when you combine food coloring, milk, and dish soap? With these simple ingredients, kids can create explosions of colors and learn the chemistry of soap.
What’s going on? 💡
You may have heard dish soap commercials say that they’re good at fighting grease. Grease is mostly fat, and fat molecules attach easily to soap molecules. Milk, especially whole milk, contains a lot of fat. When soap touches milk, the soap molecules start grabbing as many fat molecules as it can. The attraction between the soap and the fat causes the molecules to move quickly, creating colorful explosions.
