Middle Ages and Growth:

Synod of Dordrecht:
Dordrecht's significance reached a new level in 1618-1619 when it hosted the Synod of Dordrecht. This international gathering of Protestant theologians aimed to settle doctrinal disputes within the Dutch Reformed Church. The Synod's decisions had a lasting impact on Dutch Protestantism and influenced Reformed theology worldwide.

Colonial Connections:
During the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century, Dordrecht played a crucial role in Dutch colonial expansion. The city was involved in international trade, particularly with its Dutch East India Company (VOC) connections.
